RE: Unable to participate as Indonesian Diaspora Network New Zealand

Dear Indonesian Diaspora…

  • Ibu Dita , who has invited me to join the dots from New Zealand on 10 Aug 2012
  • Bapak Christian Tan, who has provide some reference how to setup IDN in NZ referring to the experience when establishing IDN US
  • Bapak Herman Syah, my senior from Menteng Raya 64-68, Jakarta, who has also provide some reference of his experience when establishing IDN NL
  • Bapak Duta Mardin , who has provided reference to the draft by-laws of IDN USA
  • Ibu Fify Manan, who has introduce us to other Indonesian Diaspora residing in Auckland, NZ
  • HE Dr Dino Patti Djalal, who has inspired me to try join the dots from New Zealand when attending the IDBC event in Grand Hyatt Jakarta on 26 Feb 2013
  • HE Bapak Wahid Supriyadi , who had advise me his view as Kepala Desk Diaspora Indonesia in Kemenlu Pejambon Jakarta of the relationship between IDN and Kemenlu or the Indonesian Embassy
  • Bapak Mohamad Al-Arief, who I manage to meet and share his experience on the growth of IDN in USA

I feel that it’s overdue that I write this letter to you all as my mentor / peer / friends  in the Indonesian Diaspora Network where Dita as the initial person that contacted me to be part of the Indonesian Diaspora Network by forming the Indonesian Diaspora Network New Zealand back in August 2012.  Thank you for the invite offer which has open more silaturahmi and also connecting me with Indonesian Diaspora Network whether it be through emails of the google groups and also physically meet and attend 2 IDN / IDBC events in Jakarta in Feb 2013.

But unfortunately we (me , Indonesian friends and non Indonesia friends in NZ) could not accomplish what we initially started out to Join The Dots representing NZ as the Indonesian Diaspora Network NZ, as our initiative was not received well by the Indonesian Embassy in New Zealand as it conflicts with the Indonesian Embassy’s  schedule / plan to form / establish the Indonesian Diaspora Network NZ on 19 April 2013.

We have then decided to proceed with the initial  plan which is to establish a society (to be registered as a NZ legal entity soon) by the name IDNZ Society where the main purpose is to

  1. Ensure sustainable activity to promote Indonesian awareness in NZ
  2. Improve  relationship between Indonesia and New Zealand (whether it be people to people relationship, cultural relationship, business relationship etc)

and disassociate ourselves from the Indonesian Diaspora Network NZ to be formed in Wellington 19 April 2013.

Alhamdulilah we have progressed with following actions

  1. Develop society website (www.idnz.org.nz) and drafted the deed of certifications
  2. Organize AGM of IDNZ Society Saturday 6 April 2013 where target is to finalize committee and registration as a legal entity in 30 day
  3. Presents the 3rd Auckland Indonesian Festival on Saturday 6 Aprul 2013 (www.aucklandindonesianfestival.com) which present cuisine, movie screening, cultural workshop where the “acara selamatan” was attended by the Consul of Japan, Vice Consul of USA, Honorary Consul of Bangladesh, Honorary Consul of Solomon
  4. Presents Experience Indonesia at the 2013 Auckland International Cultural festival where the  Indonesia site has a batik workshop. Indonesian Cuisine and 2 Wayang Kulit performance with the Auckland Gamelan Group, where we had the opportunity to be visited by The Auckland Major Len Brown and the delegate of the Minister of Ethnic Affairs Melissa Lee.

Atau IDN reporting to KBRI?

11 Mar 2013 Reply from the Indonesian Ambassador to New Zealand : that our intention to form the IDN NZ as a trigger from Dita was not align to The Ambassador plan and schedule through their current Indonesian community network formed where they will meet on 19 April 2013 in Wellington to form the Indonesian Diaspora Network NZ The above schedule is an “exclusive” schedule between The Indonesian Embassy and the  Indonesian Community Network formed by the Embassy andnot visible / transparent to other Indonesian community outside the officers of the Indonesian community network under the direction of the Embassy.

If we proceed with our plan to form IDN NZ with AGM on 6 April 2013 the Ambassador will not recognize the newly form Indonesian Diaspora Network NZ

http://www.indonesiandiasporanz.com/?page_id=72
18 Mar 2013 Reply to Ambassador letter dated 11 Mar 2013 : clarification that the invite of the Embassy to form Indonesian Diaspora Network NZ was not disseminated to the wider Indonesian community thus we were not aware and also we requested an opportunity to coordinate directly with the Ambassador so that there is no miscommunication and an invite to the ambassador to attend 2 event promoting Indonesia in Auckland (Auckland Indonesian Festival and Experience Indonesia at the 2013 Auckland International Cultural Festival) http://www.indonesiandiasporanz.com/?page_id=74

25 Mar 2013 Email from Bahrul Hadid after given access to the mailing list stating that there is an invite from the embassy to him as the Ketua Presidium Masyarakat Indonesia Auckland , an organization requested to be formed by the Indonesian Embassy that the Embassy had invited him as the President KIA on 24 Jan 2013 to attend an meeting to form IDN New Zealand 19 April 2013 at the  KBRI Wellington http://www.indonesiandiasporanz.com/?page_id=82
26 Mar 2013 As we did not receive any reply to our 18 Mar 2013 letter to the Ambassador and also  the email in the mailing list cid2012@googlegroups.com  from Bahrul Hadid as the  Ketua Presidium Masyarakat Indonesia Auckland , an organization requested to be formed by the Indonesian Embassy that he will be attending the Embassy invite to form the Indonesian Diaspora Network NZ on 19 April 2013 ,

we realize that our intention to form the Indonesian Diaspora Network NZ was not well accepted by the Ambassador and Embassy , so after careful though we

decided to

1/ go back to original plan which is to form a legal entity of NZ which means are to maintain awareness of Indonesia in NZ and increase bilateral relationship between the 2 countries Indonesia and New Zealand.

2/ Not pursue our commitment by using the name / brand  “Indonesian Diaspora Network NZ”

We decided to proceed and use ‘the name IDNZ Society where IDNZ stands for Indonesia New Zealand and continue with the initial plan which also is similar / alike with the philosophy of Indonesian Diaspora Network
